Growing up in Muhlenberg County, healthcare stood out to Preston Law as an opportunity. Family friends and neighbors drew success and meaning from their careers in the field. So when it was time for Preston to graduate from high school and consider work and college, he scanned the job listings for Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital and applied.

Most of the community was shut down due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. But the hospital was still running full-force, and looking for ways to ensure patient safety. Law was hired to screen incoming patients for COVID-19 symptoms shortly after graduating from Muhlenberg County High School.

Working in the hospital heightened Law’s interest in healthcare administration, and he began to pursue a degree in Health Services Leadership from Western Kentucky University. Law gained knowledge in business and leadership through shadowing hospital administrators and also began operating his own storage business at the age of 21. He was promoted to Patient Financial Advocate for Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital Long Term Care and graduated from WKU in May 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in Health Services Leadership and Management.

In the fall of 2023, he joined Healthforce Kentucky as a Healthcare Pathways Specialist. In this role, he serves to strengthen existing connections between the healthcare community and students from pre-school to college. His ultimate goal – to improve healthcare across Kentucky.

“Coming from a rural community, I have first-hand knowledge of the struggles people from these communities can have related to jobs and education,” Law said. “I joined HealthForce Kentucky so I could make a difference in Muhlenberg County and other counties like it – providing people with access to healthcare education information and tools – and thus – more opportunities.”
