Amy Brasher was captivated by the physics and anatomy courses she pursued during her high school years. As she explored potential career paths, she encountered the role of ultrasound technician and was immediately drawn to the opportunity to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating patients.

Amy earned credentials in mammography and sonography and began her health care career in radiology in 2003. The majority of her work has been as a registered diagnostic medical sonographer and registered vascular sonographer specializing in general sonography (abdominal, small parts, breast sonography) and vascular sonography. Working in the field, she developed technical expertise and provided compassionate care.

Amy is excited about sharing her health care knowledge with others through HealthForce Kentucky, especially since she’s seen first-hand the value of hands-on experiences.

“Anatomy knowledge is crucial for ultrasonographers, as they need to understand the normal structure and appearance of organs and tissues to accurately capture images and identify abnormalities,” she said. “They must have a solid understanding of human anatomy, including the location, shape, size, and function of various organs and structures within the body.”

Amy loves caring for people and working in health care, but always felt a pull toward teaching. When she learned about HealthForce Kentucky, she saw it as a way to use what she’s learned in health care to help shape its future in the region, one student at a time. Her role as an education specialist with HealthForce Kentucky allows her to help post-secondary institutions expand their simulations and inspire and mentor future health care professionals.

“We need new people to recognize how rewarding this career is and to learn from the more seasoned staff,” she said.
Beyond her professional achievements, Amy is deeply rooted in her family life with her husband Mark. As a loving mother of four, she instills values of compassion and dedication in her children. Amy’s active participation in her children’s life reflects her commitment to nurturing their growth and success.
